11:37 am - Brief open letter to my fellow online peeps:
I will not be commenting on politics in my journal. I do not care that this is the most interesting presidential race in the past decades (it is), nor do I particularly want to know who you're going to vote for or who you think I should vote for (I'm certainly not telling you when I decide--online communities have a bad track record of stomping on people of my moderate convictions).

I am here for the fic and the fannish goodness and the friendships.

Thanks!

There's been just enough political talk around that I remembered my need to declare my...uh...neutrality is totally the wrong term, because I certainly have opinions. My silence, I guess. :-)

You are a wise woman.

I'm ready to defriend a few people until after the election just so I can still be their friend on November 5.

Heh. I'm remembering last election year, and keeping my mouth shut at work for actual fear of having my car keyed or something, and the SPLODEY arguments all over LJ. Preemptive strike, this.

It really IS interesting, isn't it? I keep wondering if that's because I'm finally old enough to care, or if it's really as bizarre an election season as it seems.

One of my favorite exchanges from 1776 goes something like this:

Dr. Lyman Hall, the new delegate to the Continental Congress, from Georgia, is asked by fellow Southerner Ed Rutledge how he plans to vote on the subject of independence. Dr. Hall says, "I'm here without instruction, able to vote my own personal convictions."

"And those are?" asks Rutledge.

"Personal," replies Hall.

Yes, I have much love for Dr. Hall in that movie.

I am doing my best to KEEP MY DAMNED MOUTH SHUT. I don't win any friends or brownie points when I open my mouth.

Me either! This post is as much to remind myself to shut the hell up as to let everyone know what I will and will not be blogging about.

Kidding aside, I think I can count the number of political posts on my LJ (besides the polls which by nature are neutral) on the toes of one hoof, and that's just the way I likes it.

Besides, it's way more fun to instead discuss politics in fictional universes.

I respect your decision. Especially if it means that's one less journal out there with divisive politics all over it.

This is a weird election, isn't it? I mean, no matter who wins, there will be history made!
