Well, it's amusing to me, anyway.

Remember my little Numb3rs short fic, Uneven? And how my brain decided it should be expanded into a longer apocafic? I've been working on this project off and on since early May, and the first draft is done, and so is the first round of major revisions.

Or so I thought.

Basically, the original ficlet works as a prologue to the longer piece. And when I went back to do my fine-tooth combing of the story for word use, typos, etc--I plan to release this to my betas at the end of the week--I discovered something absolutely egregious, something that I had not spotted once during the past 3 months of work.

The original ficlet is in the first person, Don's pov.

The rest of the extended fic? Is in Don's pov, but tight third person.

And my brain never once noticed the difference. Despite the fact that I did a lot of playing with pronouns to tighten the pov in the extended portion.

*facepalm*

Throw the original ficlet into italics and leave the rest of it as it is and then throw it to your betas. I'll bet they think it's deliberate.

Hmm! That sounds like a great idea. I have to see if I read your original piece, I kinda disappeared for two months. :)

Perhaps you should think about reining in your writer's OCD then? Because being too OCD, can it hinder your creative juices?

'Cause I actually was going to suggest you leave it as is and somehow find a way of making it deliberate.

Have you ever beta'd one of my fics in which I switch from first to third and back again like five times? Because I do that a lot. So I feel your pain.

Yes. *g* I do that too sometimes. This is really bad, though, that I just switched person so profoundly and failed to notice it at all. LOL.

(otoh, the fact that this cracked me up instead of making me feel like crap is...a new and happy thing.)

At least it's not the other way around, hon. You could've written the huge apocafic in the tense you didn't want, and the prologue in the tense you did.
;)

{grin} I've managed to accidentally write a third of a story in a different tense... the middle third, of course :)

Hehe. I do that all the time, though usually switched. I'll start out third person POV and then somehow end up on first person. Very odd. Funny how our brains don't see the shift after rereading it so many times.
