12:53 pm - Hmmm.
The good news is, Spiderman 3 is now filming, as of November 5th.

The weird news, as confirmed by Sony and as listen on IMDB.com, is that Topher Grace is playing Venom (the other villains being Thomas Hayden Church as Sandman, no, not that Sandman, wrong comic'verse; and of course James Franco as the successor to the Green Goblin).

Pardon me while I try to wrap my brain around this piece of casting.

I'm adopting a wait-and-see attitude re: TopherVenom, but I did see a production still of Church as Flint Marko, and that caused a little fan-joy when I saw the familiar, iconic close-cropped hair and green-striped shirt. Looks perfect. If only they can expand Franco to an actual villain rather than WhineBoy (I will defeat you with my unstoppable angst! This city shall fall because my father never loved me!) it should be pretty good.

Church as Flint Marko,

I'm a huge fan of Church's, so this makes me happy--though I'm not familiar with Sandman, so....

ROTFLOL! No, seriously I think he'll be much more of a villain this time around--he's never had power before, hence the total angst!fest, but now...now he can DO something about all that angst! Run, Peter, run! :-)

I think Harry is going to be sort of a lame duck villain that, nevertheless, has the most power over Peter (he knows his identity) and is the one who threatens Peter's weak spot (MJ) rather than Peter himself. Or Harry, Venom and Sandman might team up and form a sort of Sinister Three, but I have no idea. Harry will probably be redeemed at the end and/or die.

The successor to the Green Goblin wouldn't be called the Orange Orc by any chance?

*snerk*

I think in the comics he was actually Green Goblin 2, but I hear (and I think this may have been how the animated series did it) that he's actually going to be the Hobgoblin. *shrug*

Urr? That boy is too nice and nerdy-looking to be Venom.

Though just the fact that they are making a movie with Venom is enough to warrant celebration by itself.

I'm almost positive he's just going to be Venom's human persona, the actual symbiote will be entirely CGI and probably some special-effects black slime.

I'm sure you're right, but still! Just as Toby is too eternally stoned-looking to really pull off the sharp, witty Peter Parker (IMHO) I think this guy is too nice and inoffensive looking to pull off the aggressive and slightly bonkers Eddie Brock.

I agree with you about Topher, but pardon me if I SERIOUSLY disagree with you about Toby. Imho, Toby makes an absolutely perfect Peter Parker. :-)

You are free to do so, of course. *laughs* It would probably help him out if they could actually write some witty banter into the script.

It might, actually. *grin*

Though I still think Toby doesn't come across as stoned/sleepy... *cues mental replay of the "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head" sequence from #2*

How has my childhood crush on Peter Parker survived this long?

Oh yeah, now that I realize it, even the games have more witty banter than the movies. This needs to be rectified. Sort of reminds me of a MST3k episode featuring a bad James Bond ripoff.

Villain: "This is your turn for a witty remark."
--
Hero: "I should probably have some sort of comeback at this point, shouldn't I?"
--
Villain: "I mean, come on, it's no good if you don't retort! Could be about my nose or my stupid alligator suit, ANYTHING!"

I only know enough to be dangerous . . .

(Link)
Meaning, I only have cursory knowledge of that which you speak (I've see the first movie). But . . . I seem to recall having the same reaction you're having now when they cast Michael (Mr. Mom, Johnny Dangerously, Beetlejuice, Gung Ho) Keaton as Batman. "Mr. Mom" as Batman???? Huh????? But, imo, he pulled it off quite nicely, all things considered. Who knew?

Besides that, I think we all know that evil oft appears in the sweetest, most innocent-looking packages. *snerk* Just ask me how I figure who done it in an Agatha Christie movie. Whichever suspect I like best, they done it. Ha.

Btw, we have much HP to talk about this weekend. I'll check my calendar. (Or, rather, I have much to talk about HP. You have much to keep secret . . . Heh.)

And you're quite welcome with the help on the TS holiday fic. :-) Now, do you need me to take a look at your NaNo project? Huh? Huh? Hinthinthint . . .

V.
