03:15 pm - Help me thinky-plot a fic!
So. I have no idea when I'll get around to writing this, but I still have in my head an idea for a fic where Jack O'Neill and Janet Fraiser get stranded off-world. It's supposed to be a bit of a role-reversal fic, so Janet is injured (what a patient she'll make--ha), and Jack has to take care of her as well as figure out how they wound up here instead of the SGC, and how to dial back. There will be h/c and angst and much snark with these two.

But even as I ponder it in spare moments, I'm having trouble figuring out where I want to set it--ie, in what type of conditions, what type of location. And I thought you guys might like to voice your opinions and help me out!

ETA: So far, just going by the highest ranked answer to each question, it looks like Jack and Janet might get stranded in marshland, in the daytime, and the weather is baking hot. And they might have to contend with lack of water, carnivorous plants, and/or predators. Hee.

Though at the moment, jd3000's "other" comment is teasing my imagination like crazy, and other runners-up include 'Gating into rain or snow, either at the seashore or on an open mountainside, with the possibility of creepy supernatural events or sentient penguins (I'm so keeping those for another fic sometime).

(Also: wow, kalquessa, you really want them to have a bad time...either that, or you couldn't make up your mind! *g*)

The half-destroyed wreck of an alien starship adrift with a Gate aboard, where a power coupling or something explodes, disabling the DHD and the Gate before Fraiser and Jack can return. Meanwhile, the artificial gravity plays up, life support only functions at a low level (cold and low oxygen) and there are odd...psychic remnants of the original alien crew. :-D

Wow. I'm seriously tempted towards this one right now. At least as a location--because honestly, I doubt this has been done, and it could be *quite* interesting!

I almost forgot - the aliens themselves haven't been deceased too long, and their bodies detected by the MALP are why Fraiser came on the team on the first place. And there can be spooky scenes where Jack or Janet see a particular emanation of a particular alien while the body of that poor departed soul lies near them. :-D

Heh. You may have to keep that one...I already know how they get to where they're stranded, and Janet was on the team for a reason that has nothing to do with their current situation (which isn't to say that she might not have stuff to contribute, assuming she stays coherent).

How much do I love the idea of Sentient penguins? That option cracks me up. Feel free to ignore my vote as voted for comedy rather than drama (as usual when I take these polls.) Although some fic has to use the sentient penguins.=)

We'll see. :-) If not for this fic, then maybe for a humor fic somewhere down the road.

Definitely a humor fic because Sentient penguins remind me of the psycotic peguins in Madagasscar=).

For some reason I saw this and immediately thought "desert island".

*sporfle* Right idea, but I'm not sure I want to go to that extreme a cliche with this fic. Otoh, it would make for some great Jack snark.

Yeah, I wanted to do some cliche-breaking myself, which is why I went for blazing hot open mountainside.

Which doesn't sound bad, actually. If I don't jump all over JD's idea (which tickles me greatly), I might do the mountainside, or I might go for marshland (not something I recall ever seeing on the show, much less in fanfic).

Ah, poor Jack and Janet. :-) They're gonna have a hard time of it.

They need to be trapped in ancient ruins, that *LOOK* like a harmless old log cabin, because of, I dunno, Ancient camouflage tech, that they shelter in to get out of the blizzard, and they need to be there for several days, and things need to get weirder and weirder, until they figure it out and/or Sam saves them.

Hee! I've stowed this with the other suggestions...several days might be doable, though I'm going to try and have Jack save the day all on his lonesome. We'll see if that works out or not. :-)

*laughs* I couldn't choose, they all seemed cool. So I didn't really mean my response to be "they should endure ALL of these trials and MORE! Bring on the plagues of frogs and burning hail!" Really it's more along the lines of "That would be cool. Or that. Or that. Oh, that would be kinda neat...sentient penguins! Hee!"

So yeah, no need to put Jack and the Napoleonic Powermonger through alla that on my account. *laughs*

I cannot wait to read this fic. I love Janet and Jack interaction, and the role-reversal sounds tasty.

:-) I figured you weren't obsessed with character-whumping. And glad you liked the sentient penguins...I admit I was thinking of you when I put that in.

You may have to wait a little while, anyway. I have loads of other stuff on my plate at present, particularly a crossover I've been working on for several months and which feliciakw desperately wants me to finish.

But just by my post here, you can see that I really have a soft spot for this one.
