The week before the end.... (or at least the last 5 days)

Sword of Gryffindor is calling this DHW, Deathly Hallows Week. I've never been in a fandom like this (not that I'm really *in* HP fandom at the moment, not the online version anyway), where an end is arriving, and not just an end because the show got canceled, but a predetermined end to a plot that has existed and characters who have grown over six previous books, over several years.

It's kind of remarkable how tense everyone seems to be, and how much excitement just saying the name "Harry Potter" can generate right now. Poke people, and see the static electricity make sparks. :-)

I was trying very hard to re-read the entire series before the release of Deathly Hallows. I managed to read The Sorcerer's Stone, The Chamber of Secrets, and The Prisoner of Azkaban in their entirety. I'm about half-way through Goblet of Fire as of last night, and I've decided that I need to spend part of this evening skimming the rest of the book (ie, reading the last few chapters), and then do the same for Order of the Phoenix, just looking at important scenes that the movie skimped on. If I start Half-Blood Prince tomorrow, I might finish it in time--that's the only HP book I've read only once (the rest, at least 3 times each--Azkaban and Phoenix, more than that).

I'm really looking forward to this book. Trying to keep my expectations low, just in case, and so that other people's disappointment won't annoy me (I loved Phoenix, which other people hated). Desperate to avoid spoilers--if someone posts any in comments to this journal, they'll be banned. I'll be careful about reading my flist for a week or so, as well.
