11:03 am - The saga of my rude neighbor, continued
Actually, for a few of you this might be new; I think the previous reference to this guy was in a post that was flocked for other reasons. Anyway.

I went out to my car this morning to go to work, and across the street is a city work crew.

Painting the curb in front of my neighbor's house red.

As in Do Not Park, Fineable Offense red.

I have never seen nor heard of anyone getting the city to do this in front of a private residence. My neighbor, the grumpy old retired guy who lives there with his lovely wife and annoying son, has been threatening to do this for months, basically since me and my roommates moved onto the street. There are 4 of us and we each have a car, so two of us take the driveway and two park on the street, and we take turns each month. We do try to be careful about parking near his house; we don't park there the day before or after trash pickup; we park a careful distance from his driveway so he and his wife can have visibility when backing out.

Apparently this is not enough for him.

What I want to know is, who the hell did he bribe to get his curb painted red?

I'm trying hard to 1) make this a lesson for myself in Christian forgiveness, and 2) see the funny here, because it's so far out the other side of discourteous that it's like living in a sitcom! But when I first saw that he'd actually done it? I felt like a random stranger walked up to me on the street and slapped me in the face.

That's very suspicious. I'd call the city and ask about it.

Yeah, I'm curious myself. Under what kind of special circumstances might one convince the City to do this? At least it might give myself and the roommates some peace of mind. Very strange.

(Part of me kind of hopes that things escalate to Seinfeld levels. That part of me urges you to paint his driveway red.)

What a bizarre situation. I hope it resolves well for you.

Seinfield levels. LOLOLOL

I used to live next to a guy like this. He had no choice, no parking permitted on the other side of the street, families with kids' cars, etc.

He might have tried bribing someone, if he'd ever thought of it.

I'm sorry you feel slapped. If you were my neighbor, you'd be my favorite.

Seinfield levels.

There should be a drama-to-comedy scale on which to rank one's life. *ponders this*

I'm sorry you feel slapped. If you were my neighbor, you'd be my favorite.

Aww, thank you! *hugs*

Re: the slapping: I keep expecting people to be respectful and courteous. When will I learn?

Word!

I keep expecting people to be respectful and courteous. When will I learn?

Every once in a while people surprise me by being even less classy than I thought they were. It's really starting to get on my nerves.

To quote your Colby: The hell? That's just... words cannot express the level of bizarre. I, too, would like to know how he managed to get that done. So much sympathy to you and your roomies. ::hugs::

*hugs back* I'm really seeing the funny side right now, which is much better than the angsty drive to work this morning, but yeah. Your Don icon is very apropo. :-)

(and i'm amused that you quoted--sort of--from the fic currently in beta.)

That bites big time. If you do call the city, I hope you can get some answers.

Does this mean you and your roommates will have to park elsewhere? or is there just enough room for you to squeeze in?

You have friends that aren't above taking a baseball bat to a mailbox. I'm just saying.

(Oops, replied to the wrong comment! Oh well, that's what I get for ljing on 3 hours of sleep.)

*g* The sentiment is much appreciated. (If I actually need your assistance in this matter, the code work is "funkytown.")

There's actually a lot of room to park on our street, it just would mean that we have to park further up (4 or 5 houses away instead of 1 or across the street). So it's more of a nuisance than anything (if it even comes to pass; see next post re: this saga).

I agree that this is just rude. I'd be interested in finding what the city says was reason for painting the curb.

(There really should be a comedy-drama scale).
