|07:07 pm - An opinion question and a request|
The question, first: Do you count a hyphenated word as one word or two for drabble word count purposes?
And now the request: Would anyone like to beta a Life on Mars drabble for me? It's not the crossover; it's a quick little conceptual standalone moment. But I'm new to this, and very new to writing in a Brit fandom, so I'm nervous as heck about getting their voices right.
Current Mood: good

Cool, thanks. (And great icon. *g*)
The icon is by dameruth
. And it is pretty cool, isn't it? It goes with my Zen one. :)
I count whatever Microsoft Word uses for its counting, which typically is, anything connected by punctuation of any kind (say, a hyphen) is one word.
This is the reason behind what may otherwise seem an odd habit of connecting my double-hyphens (paranthetical separators) to the word before, like a comma, instead of leaving them free-floating in between two words: MS Word counts that as a word otherwise, which really annoys me.

MMmmm, okay. I don't use Microsoft Word, myself; if it's just 100 words I will usually count manually. (Has to do with how I revise.)
Thank you! :)
I, too, count hyphenated words as one. And seeing as how I've written a great many drabbles it has saved my tootsies quite frequently!
However my word-count program counts them. Because I'm certainly not going to count my words by hand.
So, it sounds like you're making progress on your remixthedrabble

I totally count by hand if it's a drabble. *is embarrassed* (I just don't feel I can trust my word count programs, really, not for something so exact.)
I'm not, actually; this is a fic of my own design. I'm still trying to pick something to remix for my remixthedrabble--my assignment is tougher this time around than any time before. :)
