True, that. Which makes things all the more difficult for followers of Jesus, since He was not of this world and neither are we. The world will never approve of us because we stand in direct opposition to what the world stands for.

So our two choices are to either stand for what Jesus stood for and be hated by the world (as He said would happen) or hide away and compromise and be loved by the world, but shamed by Christ.

That wasn't exactly what I was going for. "World" doesn't necessarily mean "current society" in the sense the New Testament translations use it; I was using it to mean "other people," in a general sense. *hopes this clarifies a bit*

(I firmly believe that there is nothing wrong with desiring approval; such approval can help us figure out when we're getting something right, and is, moreover, a basic human desire. It's only where we go for that approval and what influence we allow things or people to have over us that can become a problem.)
