Gakked from kerravonsen and others:

Ask me for "top five" lists of pretty much anything, and I will list you my top five of that thing or things. (Assuming that I have a top five, or even any five, of the thing in question.)

Also, out of pure random fannish glee: I love a show that can get away with doing an actual episode that is "future-fic". *pets SG-1: 2010*

Top Five Best Life Moments Geez, ask a hard question, why don't you?

I'm leaving out ones that happened often, like Christmas morning.

1. I think I was about five years old. Part of the putting-to-bed routine for my brother and myself was getting a backrub from either mom or dad. I remember asking my dad why it felt so good to get one's back rubbed. He said, "Our skin gets hungry to be touched." I remember just loving that idea, that my skin could get hungry--I think it was the first time I fell in love with a metaphor.

2. I was eighteen when my 2nd sister (and 5th sibling) Laura was born. She was born at home, on purpose, with my dad and my mom's two midwife friends in attendance. I had also opted to be there, and it was one of the most powerfully moving moments of my life. Just watching the whole thing. Especially the moment when Laura's head crowned, and my mom touched her new baby for the first time, and cried.

3. A friend of mine was going through an incredibly rough time in her life, and one night I was lying in bed and could not sleep, I was so worried about her and so caught up in asking God "how could You let this happen?!" This may sound strange, but I was praying that over and over, and suddenly I felt a presence. No one was there, but it was as if Someone had spooned up behind me, wrapped His arms around me. "I'll take care of it," He said. I felt suddenly, absolutely safe, and absolutely sure that He would, indeed, take care of everything. I went right to sleep.

4. The night I graduated college, my best guy friend stuck around for a couple of hours to help me finish packing. When he had to leave, he hugged me, a good long hug from a guy who rarely did that. Then he said, "I'll miss you." This is a guy who prided himself on not getting attached to people, and almost never would say anything like that. I had certainly not heard him say it before. And I could tell he really, really meant it. It was the best going-away gift he could've given me...the knowledge that I got through to him, as he had to me.

5. My last sibling, Lucia, was born while I was living in LA. I didn't get a chance to see her until I went up to my hometown for a funeral when she was 3 months old. She was asleep when I arrived late at night. The next morning, I heard her fussing as she woke up, and I could tell that Mom was already making breakfast for the rest of the family. So I went into the room, and picked Lucia up. She was just the right size, where I could cradle her bum in one hand, and her shoulders/head in the other. The second I picked her up, she stopped crying. She had never seen me before, but she just lay there quietly, staring at me, absorbing me, and letting me do the same to her. An absolutely perfect moment.
