|08:00 am - LJ & Dreamwidth again|
LJ screwed up with its thing that enables users to crosspost comments from LOCKED posts. I think we all agree on that.
But good grief, you guys, that doesn't mean you all have to disable LJ comments and decamp to Dreamwidth.
....seriously, I am very sad and disappointed, because I don't have time or energy to move (plus I still think DW is kind of ugly and don't like the attitude of some of the fen who have moved there), and I will miss you guys.
Especially since there is a way to custom-style your LJ to get rid of the crosspost-option boxes on commenting. Check out rabidsamfan's post about this very thing. It works, too, because I have already tried it.
Current Mood: annoyed

My adventures in playing with LJ settings have been frustrating; I always seem to do the opposite of what I'm trying to do. But the instructions do seem easy enough.
(Yeah, I do algorithm development for a living. But I skate a razor's edge between what I'm exceedingly good at and what I'm exceedingly bad at, and things like style sheets usually drive me to tears.)
Hmmm... I do see the "Repost to" boxes still there, though I can't click them. But I also don't have a facebook registered. And I'm not totally sure, since I haven't tested it myself, that they would be off if I did have my facebook account linked. And I'm afraid to test it.

This is interesting! I just tried to edit my last comment to clarify where I saw the ticky boxes, and I wasn't allowed to. An unintended consequence, or is that something you've put in place?

Huh, that's weird. I shall have to play around and see, because I do want people to be able to edit their comments...

I was just able to from my iPhone, so maybe it was related to not believing I was logged in. Which is a long-time occasional problem.
I just tried it and didn't have a problem.

Yes, I went and tried editing comments on the LJ of someone I know who has the fix enabled, and it worked fine, so. :)

I fixed the logged-out problem by actually logging out and back in again. :-)

And I keep trying to PM you to explain why I'm being much more paranoid than I'd usually be, but LJ keeps on forgetting I'm logged in and telling me to go log in above, when there is no 'above'. So I go to log in somewhere else, but I'm already logged in. Arrrgh!!!
Okay, I've got a house full of dirty laundry, a huge pile of rotting food on the kitchen floor (we've been gone 11 days, I just went through and pulled out everything another family might have gotten rid of before heading out the door), and a semi-pukey child, so I've got to go be a mommy for a spell.
Don't worry, I'm not decamping! I don't like Dreamwidth very much at all! Just, life is complex, more right now than it usually is.e

Wow, that does work! Excellent.
I am probably the only single person on LJ who has not commented on this fiasco yet, but that's only because I just cannot bring myself to deal with another go-round of this again. It is an egregiously bad blunder, but, for various reasons, it doesn't affect me personally all that much, and I just do not have the energy. Nor do I believe that anybody really want to read one more iteration of "this is horrible, and please doing use it on my LJ." I honestly can't imagine why anybody would want to do something that stupid and pointless, anyway.

Still here... just writing.

I think the snag with the suggested way of removing the ticky boxes is that, according to that posts, it only works if you read your friends' pages using their "native" style. I, and I suspect many people, normally read friends' posts using my own style, because one or two people use styles that make reading their posts a struggle.
I promise not to check any ticky boxes.
