|04:14 pm - Seeking particular scripture references|
Hey, fellow Christians (and fellow readers), I need some help with a bit of research.
For my next Lenten post, I need some examples of scripture passages talking about trusting the in LORD. Specifically, I'm looking for admonitions to trust in the Lord rather than in men/armies/horses/strength, or to trust only in the Lord (with implications of not trusting anyone or anything else, or that all is fallible except the Lord).
Hebrew scriptures AND New Testement references would be welcome.
For some reason I'm having a hard time finding these. And depending on how much I find, that will slant my post, because if there's not as many as I think, then the idea I'm discussing takes on a new light in terms of the way I've heard it taught in various denominations.
Current Mood: sick
Here's one about not trusting men. Will that help?
Praise ye the LORD! Praise the LORD, O my soul!
2While I live will I praise the LORD; I will sing praises unto my God while I have any being.
3Put not your trust in princes, nor in a son of man in whom there is no help.
4His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.
5Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God,
6who made heaven and earth, the sea and all that therein is, who keepeth truth for ever;
7who executeth judgment for the oppressed, who giveth food to the hungry; the LORD looseth the prisoners.
8The LORD openeth the eyes of the blind; the LORD raiseth them that are bowed down; the LORD loveth the righteous.
9The LORD preserveth the strangers, He relieveth the fatherless and the widow; but the way of the wicked He turneth upside down.
10The LORD shall reign for ever, even Thy God, O Zion, unto all generations. Praise ye the LORD!
That's exactly the sort of thing I am looking for, thank you!
Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the Lord our God.
I see someone already mentioned Psalm 146. Okay... Proverbs 3:5 is an obvious choice.
Pretty much all of Romans chapter 8.
Thank you, these are all great.
The one that comes to my mind immediately is:
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your path. (Proverbs 3: 5-6)
(I totally was wishing I had that icon when I was writing this post. *g*)
I keep biblegateway.com around for just such occasions, but I find it more useful to search for specific passages that I remember (or less specific topics than I'm looking for right now).
Thank you, though! I might try that google search and see what other sites I can find.
Well, in paper concordances, I've always liked Strong's.
Y'know, I forgot to check to see if truncation worked at that site. I assumed it did, since it didn't glitch on me...
