|02:03 pm - Seeking scriptural references|
Once again, friendslist, I turn to you. :)
I'm looking for any references in the Christian Bible of a name (or any other word, actually) being written on someone's hand.
Searching found for me Isaiah 49:16: "See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me." But I'm like to know if there's anything similar elsewhere.
Current Mood: tired
In Revelations there are references to the Mark of the Beast being written on people's hands or foreheads. There are also references to God's name being written on the believers' foreheads, and new names being written on a white stone and given to the believers.
I was so freakin' excited the first time I read about the new names on white stones.
To think that I have a name that only God knows right now.
I just thought that was so awesome.
Me too! And I don't know why. Just the idea that God has bothered to think of the perfect name for each of us, the name He always wanted us to have--possibly to describe the person He always wanted us to be--and it's not all printed out assembly-line-style on a scroll somewhere. It's unique, and individual, and will be given directly to us. More of a personal connection, I guess?
biblegateway.com is what I use when I'm trying to find specific stuff like that. But, yeah, I can't think of any off the top of my head that haven't already been mentioned.
/end of unhelpful reply
Yes, I <3 Biblegateway. But sometimes their search engine is not super helpful (i.e. it's great when I sort of know what I'm looking for, and kind of crap when I'm on a general hunt for a concept smaller than "forgiveness" or "herds" or something *g*)
There's the bit in Exodus where Israel is commanded to bind the words of God on their arms and foreheads (phylacteries).
Then there's Song of Solomon 8:6
Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm,
For love is strong as death, jealousy is fierce as the grave.
Its flashes are flashes of fire, the very flame of the LORD.
This one will say, "I am the LORD's," another will call on the name of Jacob,
and another will write on his hand, "The Lord's," and name himself by the name of Israel.
Hope it helps!
Oh, thank you. The Isaiah one is particularly good.
