10 Books to Read in 2012: The Waste Lands by Stephen King

Number six, my King novel for the year. Although given the ending, maybe I should start reading more than one a year, as long as I'm in the Dark Tower series, anyway.

I am loving this series. And this might be my favorite yet.

kalquessa keeps telling me this is one of the best in the series, and she might be right. There's something about the ka-tet of Eddie, Susannah, Roland, and Jake that hits the same buttons as SG-1, or any other team I've loved in fandom.

And it's a huge relief to have Susannah rather than Detta Walker/Odetta Holmes around. I found The Drawing of the Three to be a stressful read because of her split between bitch and prig--whereas I kind of want to be Susannah Dean. <3 She's so badass! Even without legs and out of her chair, she manages to be the most dangerous of them all, next to Roland.

And King, while justly famous for his characters and for his ability to invoke terror and horror, is also good at things like the numinous. I probably won't forget Jake's vision of the rose anytime soon.
