11:24 pm - Sometimes I wish I could paint
Tonight when I got to work, there was a spectacular view out my window. We're on the ground floor, with tall buildings around, but out this corner window we can see up the street we're on. There were piles of solid, scalloped clouds at the horizon; they had dumped rain earlier, and now were drifting into the hills with whatever load they still carried. In a line down the street, next to the pale concrete of the mall, marched tall palm trees, their fans brushed with gold from the setting sun.

It was perfectly Los Angeles, but also much more dramatic than we're used to. I've stored it away in my mind.

It's moments like this when I most wish I could paint.

And given how much Drama L.A. is filled with, that's saying something.

I had one of those "wish I could paint moments" several weeks ago. Looking across the field across the road to the multihued trees on the other side of the field, against the blue sky.

I even thought to myself, "Even if I could just do an impressionistic painting, that would be cool."

Hee! :)

Yes, even if it were impressionistic--just something to capture that moment!

I know it takes a bit of talent.... and more than an "aim and click" camera..... but a picture maybe?

Eons ago, (like from 1965 through 68, I lived in Radando Beach (Did I even spell that right?)

Ooh, Redondo Beach. Nice!

I do have a camera, but not much talent in taking photos. Yet. Maybe someday.

Being able to paint != being able to capture the beauty of a sunset. I've tried so many times...

That said, if you ever want to play around with colors, ArtRage is a very good program for imitating traditional art media. It's given me the courage to try actual acrylics. The version I have is $30.

Ooh. Tempting. I'll check that out.

I've actually thought about taking a painting class this year. I'm not so great with visual stuff, but maybe painting would be easier than line drawing....
