 | 12:24 pm MY LORD GOD, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think that I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you. And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road though I may know nothing about it. Therefore will I trust you always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me to face my perils alone.
--Thomas Merton, from Thoughts on Solitude Current Mood: contemplative

Oh that's lovely. I'll have to print that out and paste it everywhere in my apartment now. ![[User Picture]](https://l-userpic.livejournal.com/23754944/3797258) | From: | izhilzha |

Isn't it beautiful? I'm going to be reading some Merton this year, because he's so much a contemplative Christian... and yet he also has a lot to say about being ourselves and being free in Christ, which is where I am right now. As Patrick Swazy said to Demi Moore in GHOST: "Ditto"! ![[User Picture]](https://l-userpic.livejournal.com/23754944/3797258) | From: | izhilzha |

I love that the hermit on my friendslist is the one who replied to a prayer with a movie reference. :) Haha.....well, it is a little known fact that, upon occasion, Thomas Merton slipped away from his monastery and visited a jazz club in town! Hermits often do strange things! I, myself, don't care for Jazz, but have a weakness for movies! :o)
