|10:04 am - New Dr. Who--a moment of grace|
I know I already mentioned that I'm really enjoying the New Dr. Who, and that I also enjoy the recaps that Jacob does for it over at Television Without Pity.
But the episode "The Doctor Dances" took my breath away. And Jacob gave me a perfect description of why.
"God's grace is the reminder that you always have been free -- it's just the default setting to be too afraid to reach for it -- and the gentle push that turns you around to face it. God's grace is a day like this, a genocide redeemed in a single day where no one dies. When the Doctor gets objective evidence that what he's chosen to be is informed by his actions, a well-formed equation, and he's reminded that he can dance again. That he never forgot how. This show is not fucking around."
Current Mood: enthralled

As opposed to the TV movie, which was a moment of Grace.

My poor occipital lobe. The frontal actually deserved that. :-D
*runs quicker when Sare advances again*
The show is exceptional.
Have you heard about Torchwood?
If you're referencing the next season, with Ten, then no--or at least I'm pretending to not have heard about it. *stops ears against spoilers*
It's a spinoff, actually.
I think I did hear something about that. Not much, though. Is it airing? Or coming? And where should I go to find out?

Of course; wikipedia knows all. :-)
The main role is Jack Harkness, huh? Well, guess that's one show I won't be watching. I don't mind Cap'n Jack as a companion, but I'm not sure I'd like to be watching him every week. The Doctor (Nine, anyway) is much more my type. *grin*
No, I'm talking about the spin-off, with....*spoilers deleted*
Yes, The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances is one of the greats. Seeing the Doctor's joy at "nobody dies!" is doubly poignant, because we are reminded again how full of death the Doctor's life is, and this piece of grace takes him by surprise.
