Star Trek

I know most of you have already seen it. This is not a review, just a couple points I would like to make to those who have not seen the movie yet.

(Comments are free ground for spoilery discussion, so the text of the post will not be cut.)

--I went in without much expectation, hoping for an enjoyable ride and very nervous about the young cast and the idea of "rebooting" my first fandom. O_o I certainly got that ride, and more: I came out with my heart back in the place that made me love Trek so many years ago. Not nostalgia (though there is some of that), but a return.

--The cast was better than I expected, and even the ones I had high hopes for (such as Zachary Quinto) performed even better than I had dared to hope.

--To the knowledgeable fans/purists: this is your film. I'm a trivia-happy fan myself, and I feel like this was made exactly for me. 1/3 of the way through the film, you'll be cursing me for telling you this, but keep watching. They made this for you. :)

Happy Heart Day

I realize this is rather late (very late, for some of you), but I wanted to wish everyone on my lovely friendslist a happy day. Married, together, single, whatever--I hope you felt appreciated today.

I love each of you, and am blessed to have you in my life.

Dude seriously?

Happiness Meme, day 7

I am dead of tired.

But I just got back from the Roxy, where I saw the band West Indian Girl, plus two very cool opening acts (His Orchestra and Julliette Commagere--whitemartyr, you would love the sound of Julliette). Lots of music very well performed. The friend I went with aired the idea that there's nothing quite as optimistic as a rock concert, and to some extent I agree. As long as people are making art, the world feels like a place well worth living in. We feel free.

That makes me happy. Even if I am one of the walking dead right now.

Happiness Meme, day 6

Today was a productive day. I studied for a class I am teaching tomorrow, made edits on a friend's script, talked to a few people on the phone, and caught up on Supernatural, Burn Notice, and Numb3rs.

That makes me fairly happy.

Happiness Meme, day 3

A bit tougher today, but I think I'll go with:

Mercy Shall Follow Me (Lord Peter Wimsey), by Raven

I almost never read (or want to read) fanfic for books, and Dorothy Sayers' Lord Peter novels are no exception. This, though, written for Yuletide, is a subdued and excellently written epilogue to Busman's Honeymoon, which means it's a followup to one of my favorite scenes in the novels. (If you've read it, you know what I'm referring to; if you haven't, you can't read this fic.)

Made me smile and feel appropriately moved.
Very close talking

Psych! (aka Happiness Meme, day 2)

Okay, for those of you who 'ship anyone on this show, my icon is being used because it's my only Psych icon. Nothing else is implied. (Actually, during this epn I kept thinking of people I know who 'ship Juliet/Lassiter--yes, piecesofalice, I am looking at you.)

Collapse )

This episode made me very happy! (And I might have to write fic.)

Happiness Meme, day 1

I was tagged by kerravonsen. Thanks! This seems like a great idea.

Rules: For eight days you have to post something that made you happy that day. Tag eight people to do the same.

I got to spend most of the day with my good friend kalquessa! We chatted about Sam'n'Dean, and fic, and writing, and cats, and various other things in life, and laughed a lot, and it was great. Also she brought me more Connie Willis books! \o/

Life is good.
